A novel 4-DOF wide-range tunable frequency selective surface using an origami “eggbox” structure

Abstract Shape-changing mechanical metamaterials have drawn the attention of researchers toward development continuous-range tunable frequency selective surfaces (FSSs). In this paper, a novel FSS utilizing an origami-inspired “eggbox” structure is presented featuring four-degrees freedom that can change response two orthogonal linear polarizations. The centrosymmetric be folded or rotated along axes lead to unprecedented reconfigurability compared traditional Miura-Ori-based structures which fewer degrees control. utilized cross-shaped dipole element shows enhanced bandwidth, support for polarization, and ease fabrication. prototype fabricated using low-cost fully additive inkjet printing process with silver nanoparticle conductive ink. outcome study 25% range over polarization directions. design ideal spatial filtering candidate advanced ultra-wideband terrestrial space applications.
